これはウェールズ南部のラネリーＡＦＣ（Llanelli A.F.C.）という小さなクラブの物語です
今シーズン絶好調のラネリー、それはこの二人のスペイン人選手が良く知っています

この二人のスペイン人選手はウェールズで挑戦しています
ラネリーと言えばラグビー
ここは強豪ラネリークラブ（Llanelli RFC）の本拠地であるストラディーパーク（Stradey Park）です
ウェールズ人程熱狂的なラグビーファンはいません

「スペインでは誰もがナンバー１スポーツであるサッカーを愛しています。シーズン通してサッカーを観戦しているんです。でもここウェールズでは違います。サッカーは常にラグビーの次なんです。でも今シーズンは好調です。ＵＥＦＡカップにも出場しましたし、リーグ首位にもたちました。好調はまだ続いています。それでもラグビー人気にはまだ追い付く事が出来ません。ここではラグビーが常に一番人気のスポーツなのです。少し悔しいですね」
後に名監督と呼ばれたスコットランドのジョック・ステイン（Jock Stein)も１９５０年にラネリーで短期間ながらプレーしていた事があります
しかし１８９６年に誕生したラネリーは目立たない存在でした
２００５年ラネリーはクラブ消滅の危機に直面しました
そんな瀕死のクラブを買収し、救ったのはイギリスの金融企業家ニティン・パレク氏でした

「ウェールズで上位２位に入ればヨーロッパ大会に出場出来ます。イングランドプレミアリーグで８位や９位に終わったクラブは出場出来ません。そうなればテレビ放映権料も期待出来ますからね」
殆どアマチュアのクラブで構成されているウェールズプレミアリーグ
プロのクラブかつてのＴＮＳ（Total Network Solutions F.C.）、ニューセインツ（The New Saints F.C.）とラネリーＡＦＣの２つしかありません
一握りのチームしかイングランドのリーグシステムを採用していないのです
ウェールズプレミアリーグで優勝すればチャンピオンズリーグの予選出場権を、そして２位のクラブはＵＥＦＡカップ出場権を獲得出来ます
昨シーズン２位だったラネリーは初のＵＥＦＡカップ出場権を手にしています
７月に行われたＵＥＦＡカップ予選一回戦、第一戦ではスウェーデンのラスンダ・スタジアム（Rasunda stadium）でゲフレ（Gefle IF）と対戦したラネリー
この試合はリズ・グリフィスのゴール等で勝ち、ラネリーはＵＥＦＡカップ初勝利を収めています

「スウェーデンではここまで良いプレーが出来るとは予想していませんでした。前半は厳しかったです。でも諦めませんでした。そして後半続け様に２ゴールをあげ、見事勝利を収める事が出来たんです。大きな自信に繋がりましたねぇ。お陰でホームでも自信を持って戦う事が出来ました」
残念な事にラネリーのＵＥＦＡカップの挑戦は予選２回戦で幕を閉じました
しかし今回の事でクラブ内には活気が生まれています
新たにウェールズチャンピオンの座に向けてスタートを切ったラネリー
元ウェールズ代表のピーター・ニコラスの指揮の下、ラネリーは全ての大会で１８連勝をマークしました
ただ２００７年に入ってからは調子を落としています

「他のクラブがラネリーを警戒する様になったからです。リーグ戦では確か９連勝か１０連勝をあげました。その後突如調子を落としてしまったんです。会長の為にもまた調子を取り戻しますよ」
昨シーズンラネリーはスペイン人監督を招聘。スペイン人選手も４人獲得しました
今は監督も去りスペイン人選手もヤコブ・ミンゴランセ（jacob mingorance）とエフレン・フェルナンデス（efren fernandez）しか残っていませんがこの二人は人気の選手です

「違う国の選手が居れば違う国の文化も知る事が出来ます。異なるプレーや異なる練習法も見る事が出来ます。アドバイスもしてもらえます。この街にとってもクラブにとっても良い事です」

「雨が多いということはピッチはぬかるんでいて状態は良くないという事になります。ピッチの状態が悪ければ技を使ったプレーがしずらくなり、その為ハイボールやタックルが多くなります。スペインのサッカーよりもハードですね。そしてよりフィジカルを使ったプレーが多くなります。まるでウェールズの人が大好きなラグビーをプレーしている様な気分になりますよ」
所でスペイン人選手がチームメートに対して気づいた事とはなんでしょう？

「プライドの高さとガッツです。それと豊富な運動量ですね。どんなボールも諦めずに追い駆けるんです。それから素晴らしいチームスピリットですね」
昨シーズンは実力以上の結果を出したといわれるラネリー
ＵＥＦＡカップにも出場した事で、まだ発展途上のクラブには高すぎる期待がかけられています
ウェールズカップでは準々決勝進出を決め優勝への期待も高まっています
しかしリーグ戦では以前ペースが落ちたままです
カルマーゼン（Carmarthen Town ）戦ではドロー
現在２位とは勝ち点１１の差、ＵＥＦＡカップ出場は難しそうです
ＵＥＦＡカップで再び戦うのは２００８年まで待たなければならないかもしれません
しかしラグビーが盛んなこの地でラネリーは頑張っています

Efren Fernandez
Another Spanish palyer who previous clubs include Malaga and Granada. He is a strong player, and is very comfortable on the ball. Although he is only 22 he is very mature and seems to be a natural leader on the field. A late winner from Spanish substitute Jacob Mingorance gave the Welsh side a dream debut in European competition at Stockholm's famous Rasunda stadium. The midfielder slotted calmly in with his left foot after a winding run on 86 minutes. It completed a remarkable turnaround for Llanelli, who had trailed to Kristen Viikmae's 20th-minute opening goal. Eight minutes remained when Rhys Griffiths beat Gefle goalkeeper Mattias Hugusson to a cross and sent his looping header into the net. With Gefle committed to pouring forward in search of a winner, Mingorance stung the Swedish side on the break.

Llanelli eliminated Gefle after this second-leg encounter at Stradey Park finished goalless. The visitors' hopes of overturning the loss in Sweden took a blow midway through the first half when defender Thomas Hedlund was sent off for a foul on Jacob Mingorance. The decision put the visitors on the back foot and goalkeeper Mattias Hugosson had to be on top of his game to deny both Mingorance and winger Craig Williams.
